Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about danceform.

ABOUT THE APP

danceform is a personal dance practice app for iPhone. It's where you build your own library of moves, string them into routines, and rehearse them in a mirror-style practice Studio — a place to build and refine your dance "vocabulary." Everything lives on your device.

danceform runs on iPhone with iOS 26 or later. An iPad-optimised version and an Android version are on the roadmap but aren't available yet.

No. There's no sign-up and no login — start the moment you install it. Your moves, routines and progress are stored on your device, not in an online account.

PRICING & SUBSCRIPTION

danceform is free to capture moves, build routines, and practise. danceform Pro (an optional subscription with a 7-day free trial) unlocks unlimited moves and routines, slow-motion practice, deeper dance-fitness insights, adding cue markers to routines, every theme, and exporting/sharing your work. Exact prices are shown in the App Store and vary by region. Importing anything someone shares with you is always free.

Subscriptions are managed through your Apple Account: open Settings → danceform Pro in the app, or your iPhone's Settings → your name → Subscriptions. You can turn off auto-renew there any time; access continues to the end of the paid period.

Tap Restore Purchases on the paywall or in Settings. Because there's no account, restore uses your Apple Account to re-enable Pro on your device.

USING DANCEFORM

Tap + on the Home or Moves screen to film a move with the camera or import a video, then give it a title, tags, a cover image and a tempo (BPM). It's saved to your Move Library.

A Set is a simple ordered group of moves — for example the steps that build toward a bigger move, or a warm-up you run each session. A Routine is a full piece arranged on a timeline, layered with music and on-screen cue markers, that you rehearse start-to-finish in the Studio.

The Studio plays a reference video next to your live camera so you can mirror the movement. You can practise (nothing saved) or record a take. It includes a beat counter (eight-count with subdivisions), a "ghost" overlay to check your lines, hands-free control by gestures or voice, and — with Pro — slow-motion. You can pause and resume a practice, and drag the reference to start from any point.

Connect your iPhone to a TV via AirPlay (Apple TV) or an HDMI/USB-C adapter, then open the Studio. Turn the phone sideways for a wide side-by-side of the reference and your camera.

With Pro, use the share action on a move, routine or set to create a shareable file (.dfmove, .dfroutine, .dfset) you can send via AirDrop, Messages or Files. The recipient can import it for free — just open the file on their iPhone with danceform installed.

PRIVACY & DATA

The camera mirrors and records your practice; the microphone records audio and, only if you choose voice control, handles voice commands. Your videos never leave your device unless you deliberately export or share them. With gesture control (the default) or control turned off, the microphone is never opened.

If you allow it, danceform reads your heart rate and calories from Apple Health to show how hard you were dancing during a session. It is read-only — danceform never writes to Apple Health and never exports that data.

Everything is stored locally on your iPhone. There's no cloud account. You can make your own backups by archiving or exporting moves to files (Pro) and keeping them in Files or iCloud Drive.
