Version 1 of danceform is here. It's a local-first practice app for dancers, built around one idea: the moves you've worked hard to learn shouldn't disappear the moment you move on to the next routine.
This started with hours spent watching talented kids and adults dance at performances and competitions, alongside our own dance-obsessed child. We saw how much dancers and choreographers pour into every routine — and how easily a mastered sequence gets lost once attention shifts elsewhere.
If you dance, you've probably felt this: you nail a tricky transition, then switch to a different routine, and that first move just vanishes. You're not remembering the choreography anymore — you're reconstructing it from scratch, and that's frustrating.
We wanted to build a way to remember what you'd forgotten you already know. It sounds like a small thing, but it comes up constantly: dancers know so many moves by heart, and then the sequence, timing, or variation changes and it suddenly feels brand new again.
Our answer is simple — keep every move in your own personal Move Library, so the mechanics of "what was that step?" stop taking up headspace. When you're not stressed about forgetting the choreography, you're free to focus on the feeling, the music, and your own style.
Once a move is in your Library, the Practice Studio is where you drill it: your reference video sits beside your live camera, and the ghost overlay blends the two so you can check your lines and spacing as you go. It's built for breaking a sequence into small, manageable pieces — and everything stays on your iPhone, not on a server.
You can also group moves into Sets — an ordered progression, like the steps that build toward a move, or a warm-up you run every session. And when you're ready to put moves together into a full piece, Routines let you arrange them on a timeline with music and cues.
If you want to share a move with a friend, or you're a teacher passing sequences to students, export and import are built in. Export is a Pro feature; importing is always free for everyone you share with.
This is really the whole point of the app: your Move Library is the permanent record that used to live only in muscle memory. Add a title, tags, and a tempo to each move, and it's there whenever you want to revisit or rebuild on it. Looking further ahead, Dance CV gives you a place to log choreography credits, troupe history, and competition results — building that "professional record" out of the moves and routines you've already captured.
This is just the start of what we have planned. We'd genuinely like to hear what you want to see next — there's a detailed help section in the app to get you going, and you can always reach us through the Support page.
Happy dancing.
